Vision Insurance & Cafeteria Plans You may be able to use your vision insurance or cafeteria plan benefits towards the purchase of prescription AVA glasses. You would pay for the prescription MP3 sunglasses version of your choice, and we will submit for your reimbursement. Your vision insurance would need to be checked for eligibility, for both you the patient and our eye clinic, to see if the following apply:
- Are you currently eligible for vision benefits?
- Have your benefits been utilized for your current benefit cycle?
- What is the amount of your vision benefit?
- Are you (the patient) and we (the provider) in network or out of network? (This usually affects the amount of your benefit and whether they will reimburse you the patient and at what percentage.)
- Insurance: In some instances, you would file for reimbursement with the appropriate documentation that we can supply for you to turn into your insurance carrier or we can help file it for you. It will depend on your insurance. We are not a provider on every insurance plan.
- Cafeteria plans: Cafeteria plans are referred to by many names including flexible spending accounts (FSA), choice spending accounts, section 125 plans, and/or medical reimbursement accounts. With cafeteria plans, you pay for the prescription AVA glasses and we will supply you with the appropriate documentation for you to receive reimbursement from you plan administrator.
The IRS lists qualified medical expenses under IRS Publication 502. This is what determines a qualified medical expense for cafeteria plans and is listed under Eyeglasses.
“You can include in medical expenses amounts you pay for eyeglasses and contact lenses needed for medical reasons. You can also include fees paid for eye examinations.” This applies to prescription lenses and their frames.
- Is your prescription current? (Specified by your examining Dr. and verified by our clinic.)
We will need all appropriate information to check your insurance eligibility. All information is protected by Federal HIPAA rules regarding privacy and health information.
If you would like to have your local eye doctor carry our line of sunglasses, in order to make working with insurance easier for you, ask your eye doctor's office if they would carry some of our products in their office. Or they could order each product individually and have the prescription lenses made through one of our authorized labs. |
