Music Style: Acoustic/Pop/R&B About Us Powerful lyrics defined by strong vocal melodies are the trademarks of Arkansas native Barrett Baber. Baber has recently released his sophomore album entitled "Frat Bar Superstar", and is playing live in multiple venues. During a stay in Nashville, TN, Baber was mentored by several prominent songwriters including Danny Tate who has written songs for Kenny Wayne Sheppard and Tim McGraw. In the fall of 2000, Baber received a standing ovation when he opened for Atlantic Recording artist Edwin McCain. In 2002, Baber auditioned for the hit TV show American Idol and was invited to Hollywood, California where he placed in the top 48 out of 50,000 contestants. "The American Idol experience was good for me; it validated what I want to do with my life and gave me a good idea on how I measure up against some of the most talented people in America," says Baber. In late 2002, Baber left the Country Music Capital and headed west to the blues city, Memphis, TN. While in Memphis he was selected to play at the world famous Orpheum Theatre in the Memphis Music Showcase where he placed second out of nearly 5,000 contestants. On a trip to New York in December of 2003, Baber received an invitation to play at "The Bitter End", a world renowned venue that has seen the likes of James Taylor, The Rolling Stones and more recently, Norah Jones grace the stage. Also while in New York, Baber traveled to Woodstock to record parts of his album at the Barn Studio which is owned and operated by Levon Helm formally of "The Band". Recently, Barrett has spent the majority of his time playing live shows all over the mid-south, promoting the release of his new album. "Playing live is what I love to do. All the driving and late nights and practice are worth it when you put on a great show and make people say wow." This artist on the rise brings large crowds to every show he plays and enjoys every minute of it. Playing as much as possible has increased his fan base on college campuses all over the mid-south from Oxford, Mississippi to Fayetteville, Arkansas. "There is nothing I would rather do than be playing my guitar and making people smile." This attitude and his music are what draw people to him, insuring his continued success in the music business.
